In this section, you can configure behavior of the system related to suspicious or unknown traffic related to authentication of your user accounts.
This section applies to our native Registration as a Service feature and it’s logic is based on following factors:
IP address
deviceID
UUID
So whenever we deal with unknown factors it may trigger control mechanisms or fail 2 ban in case we area dealing with brute force attacks.
Unknown device control
Unknown device control is a feature that determines behavior for authentication for previously unknown devices that contains three modes of operation:
Turned off
Authentication is allowed no matter if it’s from an unknown device.
Lack of notifications when users authenticate from an unknown device.
Approve logging from unknown devices through links in notifications
Authentication is not allowed until you confirm it by clicking the link in the email.
Notifications are sent when users authenticate from an unknown device.
Receive notifications without the need to approve logging from unknown devices
Authentication is allowed.
Notifications with information about logging in from from an unknown device.
Conditional approval based on location
If logging in from unknown device is detected in the country selected as the default location, authentication is allowed.
If logging in from unknown device is detected outside the country selected as the default location, authentication requires a confirmation by clicking the link in the email.
Settings for unknown devices access
Note: You can find exemplary email templates in Communication > Email > Templates > Featured. You can reuse them or make your own by modifying those exemplary ones.
In order to configure desired behaviour for your users you have to:
Go to Settings > IAM for applications.
In the Unknown device control section, click Show.
From the Unknown device mode dropdown list, select one of the following options:
Turned off - No notifications are sent when a user logs in from an unknown device.
Approve logging from unknown devices through links in notifications - An email with links is sent and it must be clicked in order to let a user in to an application who logs from unknown devices.
Receive notifications without the need to approve logging from unknown devices - An email with information is sent when a user logged in to an application from unknown device.
Conditional approval based on location - An email is sent with information that a user logged in to an application from unknown device in a default location and an email request to approve logging in from unknown device outside the default location is sent.
Selecting the template of the notification
From the dropdown list, select a template. You can make use of the default templates and edit them according to your preferences. You can find them in the Featured folder in Templates.
Confirm by clicking Apply.

This is a standard Jinjava tag to insert users first name. You can use other Jinjava tags related to {% customer … %}
{{email}}
This Jinjava tag inserts the user’s email to indicate the account to which there’s an attempt to sign in.
{{device_control_url}}
This Jinjava tag will insert a link to approve a sign-in attempt. Only used when you want unknown device sign-ins to be approved by a user.
{{country}}
This Jinjava tag inserts a country related to in a sign-in attempt (based on IP geolocation).
{{ip}}
This Jinjava tag inserts IP address of a device used in a sign-in attempt.
{{login_time}}
This Jinjava tag inserts the time of a sign-in attempt.
Fail to ban settings
Fail to ban feature will ban any device, UUID or IP address that is having too many failed login attempts.
Important: Fail to ban applies to Registration as a Service
Ban settings
As a security measure, you can set the three-stage ban on accounts to which a user failed to log in X times in a defined time range.
Go to Settings > IAM for applications.
In the Fail 2 ban settings section, click Show.
Define the settings for each stage of the ban:
In the Failed attempts collection period, enter the time during which the login attempts are tracked. It is counted from the first attempt of logging in.
In the Ban duration, enter the time during which a user is not able to log in to the application.
In the Max failed auth. attempts, enter the number of failed attempts allowed.
Example:

In this configuration, if in 120 seconds a user exceeds over 10 failed login attempts, the user is banned for 5 minutes.
Confirm by clicking Apply.
Untrusted traffic
We have a global mechanism implemented that’s keeping your user accounts safe, and that is untrusted traffic filtering which rejects traffic from hosts that are known to be used in hacking attacks around the world.
That covers all of the TOR network traffic, public proxies and more.
